The Purpose of Presbyterian Women
Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves:
The Presbyterian Women of First Presbyterian Church consists of a Coordinating Team of officers and coordinators for many areas of service, emphasizing our purpose, within the church. In addition, we have two Circles. The Agape Circle, meets at 11:30 a.m. on the third Wednesday of the month, August - November and January - May and focuses on the Bible study from Horizons magazine, Who is Jesus? The Winnie Prugh Circle meets at various times throughout the year for special projects.
Some of the Mission Programs Supported by Presbyterian Women
Ruth's Blessings - A ministry providing personal hygiene items (soap, laundry detergent, etc.) to individuals and families on a semi- monthly basis. These items cannot be purchased with any current assistance programs offered to individuals and is named for Ruth Ellis whose modest legacy to Presbyterian Women inspired the mission program.
Pop-Top Tabs - Used by the Ronald McDonald House in Johnson City. This support helps provide a “home away from home” for families with children in crisis.
Labels for Education - Sent to Sunset Gap, these labels help schools get free rewards. Qualifying labels include Campbell’s, Spaghetti-O’s, Pepperidge Farm, Swanson’s broth & canned chicken, Prego lids, Franco-American gravies and V8.
March is HUGS month. The HUGS (Help Us Grow Successfully) program at the County Health Department is designed to provide prenatal care, birth and child care through age 3. The Presbyterian Women collect newborn baby items to contribute to this program.
